When pharmacies are open over 2023 Christmas and new year bank holidays in New Forest and Christchurch
RESIDENTS across the New Forest and Christchurch in need of medical advice and medication over Christmas can find details of their nearest pharmacist here.
Dozens of pharmacies will open over the festive period to continue to offer services and health advice.
Those who have notified NHS England that they will be open have been compiled in a handy online list below.
People are also being reminded to order their repeat prescriptions as soon as possible if their usual medicines are due to run out over the Christmas or new year period – as it can take four or five working days for their request to be received.
Chief medical officer for the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, Dr Lara Alloway, said: “We would ask people who may need to order repeat prescriptions to please submit them in good time, and not leave them to the last minute.
“As well as being an invaluable high street resource, pharmacies of course offer expert advice about over-the-counter medicines to treat common health conditions, as well as information on medication and a range of other services.
“There are lots of coughs and seasonal ailments doing the rounds at present and pharmacists offer a fast and convenient service.
“Your pharmacist is also trained to advise you if you need to see a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional.”
She added: “We are also asking anyone who is worried about their medicines to arrange a medication review with your practice pharmacist, nurse or doctor in the new year.
“It is important to make sure you are taking the right medication at the right dose and that you are getting the best out of those medicines.”
A spokesperson for NHS Dorset added: “Christmas can often be a very demanding time of year.
“Be prepared in case you or your family need help or support over the upcoming break.”
It also advises stocking up your medicine cabinet to cover everyday ailments – for example antacids for indigestion, painkillers, cough lozenges, antiseptic cream or eye drops.
