Person dies after being struck by train at New Milton, with lines blocked between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth
A PERSON has died after being struck by a train at New Milton on Saturday night.
Paramedics responded, along with British Transport Police (BTP), to the incident, which took place shortly after 9pm at the town’s railway station.
But the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the matter was later handed over to the coroners’ service.
All railway lines were blocked off between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth while the emergency crews dealt with the incident.
South Western Railway warned passengers services might be cancelled, delayed or revised.
The lines were reopened about three-and-a-half hours later, but disruption continued until around 3.30am.
A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to New Milton station shortly after 9pm on Saturday 16th November following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
