MOTORISTS will face overnight diversions over the next two weeks as multi-million-pound improvement work on the A31 continues.

National Highways is shutting the westbound carriageway between the M27 junction one for Cadnam and the A338 Ashley Heath roundabout during Tuesday and Wednesday nights, 9th and 10th and 16th and 17th August.

This is to allow contractors to install 45m-long beams for the construction of two new bridges to carry westbound traffic on the A31.

Between 8pm and 6am each night, motorists will be diverted via the A336, A326, A35, A3060 and the A338.

With the two old bridges’ demolition and removal completed a week earlier than planned – on 22nd June – National Highways said the refurbished carriageway was on track to fully reopen by the end of November.
