Barriers and exclusion zone tape were in use to prevent accidents involving the shattered glass. Staff confirmed the store would reopen only after extensive repair work was carried out.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police confirmed: “We received a report of a burglary at the Co-op on High Street, Milford on Sea shortly after 2am Monday.

“It’s reported that four unknown men forced entry to the front of the store. No items have so far been reported stolen. Officers are investigating and extensive enquiries are under way to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
