Continued disruption after man badly hurt in three-vehicle crash on A31 near Ringwood

A MOTORIST was badly hurt in a three-vehicle crash that caused long evening rush-hour tailbacks on the A31 near Ringwood yesterday (Tuesday).

Disruption has continued today, with a spillage from the collision meaning one lane of the westbound carriageway between the A338 and the M27 towards Totton remains closed.

Emergency crews responded to the incident involving a Vauxhall Vivaro, a Citroen C3 and a Volkswagen Scirocco around 5.10pm yesterday.

The Volkswagen driver, a man in his 20s from Bournemouth, suffered a serious ankle injury and was taken to hospital.

Delays of up to an hour, with about five miles of congestion on approach, were reported before the vehicles were recovered about three-and-a-half hours later.

The lane closure remained in place as National Highways engineers were sent to assess and deal with the spillage. But the travel authority reported there were “no significant delays” at that point.

“This lane closure will remain in place throughout the day and resurfacing works will take place overnight,” an online post by National Highways: South-East said this morning.
