Tuesday will be Pancake Day – so here is a guide to a few of the events in the local area to help have a flipping good time.

Also known as Shrove Tuesday, it marks the start of the build-up towards Easter and is the only time of year when it is perfectly acceptable to throw food around your kitchen.

Communities around the New Forest and Christchurch will be getting out their frying pans and lacing up their running shoes in preparation for contests around the area on the day.

The fun starts at 3pm at Carvers Recreation Ground with the pre-school races followed by school and adult team races. Fancy dress is optional for contestants, but prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.

Beaulieu village high street will come to a standstill for the races which begin at 2pm.

Getting the action underway will be the children of the village primary school followed by adults’ team races.

There will be a firefighters team – in full uniform – as well as contestants from the Montagu Arms, Palace House Museum and others.

Afterwards there will be a competition to find the Best Beaulieu Pancake Tosser.

At 3pm at the village hall everyone is invited for tea and pancakes donated by the Montagu Arms, The Brabazon Restaurant and the Master Builder’s Hotel.

The Brockenhurst races will take place between Tesco and the Watersplash on Brookley Road at 3.30pm.

The event will begin with toddlers and parents racing followed by separate school years, adults and relay races.
