A NEW Milton panto set to open next week has been postponed to July 2022 over Omicron Covid variant fears.

New Forest Players were due to perform Robin Hood at New Milton Memorial Centre from 30th December until 2nd January.

However, the team behind the show say they are "deeply saddened" to announce that uncertainly surrounding increasing community transmission of Covid means it will not go ahead.

New Forest Players chairman David Luker said: “We have taken the difficult decision to reschedule the production.

“The health and safety of our audience, cast and crew is our primary concern and given the current situation we believe that the best decision for this show is to move it to next year.

“Although this is hugely disappointing, particularly to the cast and creative team who have put so much effort into producing a hugely entertaining show for you, we feel that by making this decision now, we are doing all we can to keep everyone safe and introduce some certainty into a very uncertain time.”

A statement on the Players website also reveals that, as a small charity, it has already incurred considerable costs in the run-up to the production.

The statement continues: “We hope our audience and members will understand this difficult decision. Although financial matters are secondary to health and safety concerns, New Forest Players may lose a considerable sum in unrecoverable expenses as a result of this decision which, as a small charity, will be painful to incur. We are negotiating with our service providers and hope to limit this damage.”

Robin Hood will now be staged as a summer show at the Memorial Centre from 28th to 31st July. Ticket holders will have an option to retain their booking for the rescheduled show or request a refund by 31st January.

The statement continued: “We will arrange refunds to the credit/debit card which was used for the purchase. Inevitably it is likely to take some time to process these, but we will endeavour to complete refunds as soon as possible.”
