A NEW Milton man has been arrested after a reported hit-and-run involving a woman pushing a baby in a pram.

The incident happened yesterday (Tuesday) morning in the Redhill Park area of Bournemouth and involved a Toyota RAV4.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to hospital suffering a life-threatening head injury, while the baby – who was also taken to hospital – was uninjured. The road was closed while emergency services were at the scene.

It's alleged the driver of the car, a 38-year-old man from New Milton, did not stop at the scene. After police enquiries, he was arrested on suspicion of driving offences, a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said.

Sergeant Richard Stroud, of the road traffic unit, said: “We are investigating the circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and either witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam to please contact Dorset Police.

“I would like to thank motorists for their patience while the road closure was in place so we could carry out our investigation.”
