New Forest District Council donates £2,500 towards English lessons for Ukrainians
ENGLISH lessons for Ukrainian refugees will continue thanks to a £2,500 donation from New Forest District Council.
The lessons, which are organised by social enterprise New Forest Homes for Ukraine, are held at Lymington’s library.
NFDC’s cabinet member for housing and homelessness, Cllr Steve Davies, said: “New Forest Homes for Ukraine has been organising English lessons in the library in Lymington for some time now, but required additional financial support to continue them.
“So we decided to allocate some of the money from the Homes for Ukraine funding to support this initiative, which provides invaluable support to non-English speaking Ukrainian guests who are settling into the New Forest community.”
He added: “We recognise the challenges that non-English speakers face when settling into a new community, and these lessons will provide invaluable support to assist them in their integration into the local area.
“We thank New Forest Homes for Ukraine for their continued dedication and hard work in organising these lessons.”
The council’s Homes for Ukraine scheme recognises the importance of providing assistance to community groups helping displaced families settle in to the community.
It also helps with housing, children’s activity projects and ways into employment.
