New community art installations paid for by governments’ Levelling Up fund to be created for Mudeford and Burton

TWO new community art installations are being proposed for Mudeford and Burton.

Funded by the government’s Levelling-Up Fund, BCP Council hopes they will “help boost civic pride” and attract visitors and residents to “overlooked” areas of the seafront.

They are among 10 suggested across the connurbation’s coast. The council says it will “look to engage diverse and under-served communities” in arts and culture, with each piece themed on ‘identity’.

The plan for Mudeford is a maritime-themed wall of mosaic art. What might go on display in Burton has not yet been revealed.

Cllr Andy Martin, portfolio holder for customer, communications and culture at BCP Council, said: “We are fortunate to live in a culturally rich area of great historical significance.

“Each of these art interventions aim to help boost the prosperity and profile of each individual location, strengthening identity and place making through providing visitors and communities with a gateway to the past.

“Central to this project will be the visions of our local people and communities, who will play an important role in transforming these art pieces from concept to reality.”

Communities will be asked their views on the installations, with the artists set to create them over the spring and summer, be completed by the end of 2025.
