A DARING Dorset woman is is skydiving to raise hundreds for the children's hospice which supports her terminally ill daughter.

Alex Pugh from Burton, near Christchurch, will take on the challenge of jumping from 13,000 feet tomorrow (Saturday) for Julia's House.

Her daughter, 12-year-old Tamzin, has received care for the last seven years after being born with an undiagnosed but life-limiting condition which affects her with seizures and severe visual impairment.

Alex said she was "scared stiff" but said the challenge was something she had always wanted to do.

She added: "I've never done anything like this before – it's one of those once in a lifetime things that you have to do.

"I was all prepared to do the jump in April but it got cancelled due to the weather and I've had to wait until now. The last time I even set foot on an aeroplane was 29 years ago!"

The family will be joined by members of Julia's House to cheer her on at the event at an airfield in Salisbury.

Alex, who also has six sons, said: "Tamzin is such a happy girl. She can't talk and can sit, but only for a few minutes. She can't walk and is fed through her stomach.

"When the Julia's House nurses and carers come it gives me time to be with my boys and be a mum to them.

"A lot of my time is taken up with Tamzin, so it's such a help to just be able to sit and do homework or play with them, or even to jump in the bath and have some time alone for me."

The organisation relies on public donations, fundraising and legacies for 92% of the income it needs.

Alex hopes to raise more cash for Linwood School in Bournemouth, where Tamzin is a pupil, for replacing the hydrotherapy pool and creating a new changing room facility and sensory room.
