Mother and daughter Jess and Chloe Burrows to jump 10,000ft in aid of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care

A DARING mother and daughter from New Milton hope to raise hundreds for a local hospice by skydiving.

Jess Burrows (45) and daughter Chloe (25) will jump from 10,000ft on 21st September in aid of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, a charity dedicated to helping those with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Only seven months ago Jess underwent major surgery to have a stoma fitted after battling ulcerative colitis for 12 years.

She told the A&T: “I tried many medications over the years that my body gave up responding to, and then in November 2023 I was rushed to hospital and told I had to have surgery.

“Complications followed and so did the dark times but I told myself that if and when I made it through these tough times and got out of hospital, I would do things that would take me well out of my comfort zone as life is so very short and needs to be lived to the fullest.”

Jess, who is the marketing director of cleaning company ServiceMaster New Forest, Bournemouth and Poole, first discovered the hospice’s work at a networking meeting.

She added: “Their aim is to help as many people as possible who are dealing with a life-limiting illness to live their precious lives well, right up until their last moments.

“This is done through improving symptoms and reaching individual goals to support them in coping and managing their diagnosis. Support from the local community is vital to the running of the hospice care.

“I was really touched listening to what the amazing nurses at Lewis Manning do, so signing up to jump out of a plane is nothing in comparison.”

Chloe, who has worked for the family business for almost 10 years, says she had always wanted to do a skydive.

“After experiencing first hand the relentless and dedicated work that nurses do, day in day out, I am honoured to be doing a skydive to raise money to help improve the services they can provide. Thank you to everybody who’s supported us so far.”
