Multi-million-pound ‘world class’ teaching complex approved for growing Forres Sandle Manor private boarding school
A MULTI-million-pound “world class” new teaching complex given the green light promises to revolutionise the educational landscape at an expanding New Forest school.
NFDC planners were told the timber-clad groundbreaking new ‘steam’ (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) building at Forres Sandle Manor private boarding school, near Fordingbridge, would replace two temporary classrooms.
The Grade ll listed Sandle Manor originally formed part of the Breamore Estate, but has operated as a private boarding school since 1935, occupying a large site west of the town centre.
Planners heard that the school, currently catering for boys and girls aged two to 16, intends to expand the curriculum to provide teaching up to Year 11 including GCSEs, with pupil numbers expected to increase from the current capacity of 266 to 350.
Head teacher Mark Howe said: “Forres Sandle Manor is currently enjoying one of the most exciting periods in its long and distinguished history.
“In recent years our school has expanded considerably and this world-class facility will ensure that we can fulfil my ambitions and offer our pupils outstanding practical facilities to complement our superb teaching body.”
Key features of the new building include three specialist science labs with cutting-edge technology, and a design and technology hub equipped with a computer-aided design (CAD) suite.
A new school library in a modern and inviting space will serve as a hub for academic exploration and discovery, and there will be multiple art studios with gallery space to showcase students’ work to the community.
A school spokesperson added: “This significant investment underscores Forres Sandle Manor School's commitment to providing a comprehensive and forward-thinking education that prepares students for success in an increasingly complex and dynamic world.”
