A MOTORIST has been charged over the death of an elderly woman in a crash in Somerford.

The man, who is 54 and from Poole, is set to appear at the local magistrates court on Friday 6th December accused of causing death by careless driving.

The crash involved a blue Ford Focus and occurred on Somerford Road at 3.15pm on 18th March this year.

A pedestrian, 82-year-old Joy Norman from Christchurch, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As reported in the A&T, the victim’s family issued a heartfelt tribute through Dorset Police.

“She was a loving sister, aunt and friend,” they said. “Our family get-togethers will never be the same without her sense of fun and slightly fey character.

“Joy cared for children all her working life and for family, friends and neighbours during her retirement. She is and will be greatly missed.”

An inquest into Mrs Norman’s death was opened and adjourned at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court.

A full hearing is due to take place at a later date.
