THE spring sun shone down on the long-awaited return of traditional maypole dancing on Burton village green.

Pupils and staff from Burton C of E Primary School embraced the popular ritual this morning (Friday).

Burton & Winkton Parish Council had revived the tradition with the school's help after years of campaigning by villagers.

It was also the first major community event since the first Covid-19 lockdown hit in March 2020.

Cllr Maxine Mussell said afterwards: “It was a glorious spring morning to reintroduce this tradition.

“There was a great turnout and a fabulous atmosphere.”
