SCOTTISH rock band Marmalade are set to be joined by former Radio 1 DJ David Diddy Hamilton for a charity retro night at Highcliffe Sports and Social Club on Friday 29th March.

After becoming the first Scottish act to top the UK charts on New Year's Day in 1969, Marmalade went on to have top 10 hits well into the 1970s.

Their debut number one Ob-la-di Ob-la-da led to headlining slots on Top Of The Pops marking the climax of a hard-won personal victory for Dean Ford and the Gaylords, who changed their name to Marmalade in the mid-1960s.

After a string of hits in the early 1970s, Falling Apart At The Seams hit the charts across the globe in 1976s, following the recruitment of Sandy Newman as a singer and guitarist.

Tickets to the Marmalade retro night are £25 each but we’ve teamed up with the organisers Quiz Britain Productions to give one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of tickets by answering the question in this week’s A&T - still just 50p.

Over the years the line-up has changed, but fans agree Marmalade continue to entertain with high-class harmonies and dynamic live stage performances of their extensive catalogue of old and new hits.

The band’s original lead vocalist Dean Ford died on 31st December 2018 at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 72 after complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease.

His final album, a two-disc collection called This Scottish Heart, was released just weeks before his death.

The current band line-up now features Sandy Newman as lead vocalist and guitarist, Alan Holmes, Jan Robinson, Chris North and John James Newman.

The retro evening will be hosted by DJ David 'Diddy' Hamilton who will also be playing a 60's retro disco after their show with a raffle in aid of Variety Wessex. There will also be spot prizes for the best retro fancy dressers.

Tickets are on sale at Highcliffe Sports and Social Club, ENTS 24, Eventbrite or the retro night’s website at www.quizbritainproductions.co.uk Telephone bookings can also be made by contacting Krissie on 07810 797825.
