A MAN is due to appear in court charged in connection with a crash in which an 18-year-old woman died on a main road between Ringwood and Matchams.

Police launched an investigation after a blue BMW 1 series careered off Hurn Road, sustaining extensive damage, around 9.30pm on Saturday 16th September last year.

Laionie Kennard, from Verwood, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nearly 15 months later, following his arrest and enquiries by the roads policing unit, Joseph Pickett (20), of Lyneham in Wiltshire, has been charged with causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving.

He is set to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 20th December.

As reported in the A&T, Laionie’s family previously paid tribute to her in a statement released through Dorset Police, calling her “our princess”.

“She was the most kind, caring daughter and sister we could ever have wished for,” the family said.

“Her smile would light up a room, and she was loved by so many. I cannot explain in words just how much she is going to be missed.”
