A MAN has been arrested following a break-in at the Tesco Express store in Brockenhurst.

The police were called at about 4.45am today (Tuesday) to a report of a burglary at the shop in Brookley Road.

Entry had been gained to the outlet through the front door, said a spokesperson for the constabulary.

Shortly afterwards officers arrested a 28-year-old man following a single-vehicle collision in Sandy Lane, Lyndhurst.

The man, from Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He is currently in police custody and an investigation is underway.

The raid comes a few weeks after masked raiders set fire to a cash machine in a failed bid to steal it from the Premier store in nearby Lymington Road.

Shopkeeper Cemal Gunduz was asleep upstairs, where he lives with his wife and two children, when he was woken by a loud bang outside and the burglar alarm going off at about 1.25am on 3rd September.

Anyone with information about the Tesco break-in should call police on 101, quoting crime reference number 44190349917.
