A MAN has been arrested after a robbery at a Sway Co-op yesterday afternoon.

At about 1.10pm on Tuesday, a man entered the store on Station Road and placed several bottles of alcohol into a bag before going to the shop’s self-serve checkout.

He was challenged by Co-op staff after trying to leave without paying for some of the items. The staff were then threatened with violence and the man left the store, a spokesperson from Hampshire police said.

A 23-year-old man from Sway has now been arrested on suspicion of assault, robbery and causing criminal damage.

He remains in custody.
