Magnificent matches for New Forest Hockey Club ladies
NEW FOREST Hockey Club’s ladies’ teams enjoyed a busy and very successful weekend.
The Club’s first team led the way with a 2-1 Hants Division 1 victory away at Basingstoke II on Saturday. Top scorer Jade Lock grabbed a brace in an impressive performance from a Forest side down to the bare 11 players with no substitutes.
Forest Ladies I are currently second in the top Hampshire division. However, promotion is not guaranteed as regional leagues are expected to be restructured this summer.
The New Forest ladies second string had a double winning weekend with a fine Hants Division 3 victory at Yateley on Saturday, followed by a Hampshire Trophy quarter-final victory over Haslemere II on Sunday.
Becks Robertshaw was a hat-trick hero in the 4-2 victory over Yateley with teenager Phoebe Branson adding the other.
Sadly, despite the efforts of a team of physios, Robertshaw, the hat-trick hero from Saturday’s game, only lasted 10 minutes before limping off on Sunday.
Noble intervention
The second team’s Hants Trophy victory over Haslemere was memorable for the appearance in the same team of three members of the Noble family from Milford on Sea.
Mum Caroline kept things tight at the back with her daughters Jordy and Ruby playing starring roles higher up the field.
Goals from teenagers Josie Morris, Molly Pates and an Alice Meadowcroft penalty flick fired Forest II through to the semi-finals.
Forest second team skipper Sandy Smith said: "A great weekend for us, guaranteed third place in Division 3 with three games still to play and a semi-final match against Alton next month."
