Moyles Court School in Ringwood goes green to help the environment with pupils holding a litter pick in New Forest

PUPILS at Moyles Court enjoyed taking part in a school community litter pick during a walk around the New Forest.

Children at the Ringwood school scooped up bags full of rubbish during the event, which was part the school’s plans to become as green as possible.

An Eco Squad has been formed by pupils across the year groups, from reception through to year 10, who regularly discuss ways of making the school more environmentally friendly.

Since it was formed, the school has pledged to plant trees in its grounds and reduce single use plastics. A competition was also held for pupils to design a Moyles Court Goes Green bag for life.

The winning two were printed on to jute and cotton bags, and the funds raised from selling them were used to pay for high vis jackets for litter picking, and recycling bins for every classroom.

The school also tracked down a company which sells refillable glue sticks, as most currently go to landfill after being used.

Joining forces with volunteer group Greening Ringwood, the school has launched The Greening Campaign, which aims to improve the town’s environment.

It has also become involved with local charity Ringwood Actions for Climate Emergecy (RACE), which brings people together to take action to combat climate change.

Mrs Potter, year 5 teacher and Eco Squad co-ordinator said; “We will continue to weave climate change and sustainability into our curriculum throughout the school.

“We have recently pledged to build a school pond, which will provide an excellent educational resource, and is an exciting way to get children inspired to explore wildlife.”
