Letters: Lyndhurst looking resplendent with festive lights display

SIR – The village of Lyndhurst is looking resplendent once again with the festive display of trees and lights

I would like to pass on my thanks to the people who have made this wonderful display possible for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. This is not down to just the Lyndhurst Village Decorations Committee and the band of willing volunteers but also to the majority of local businesses who, together with individual sponsors, provide much needed financial support.

I also thank everyone who supported our annual draw with special congratulations going to Holt (Lyndhurst), F. Whitmoor (Coulsden) and Frank (Lyndhurst) who were all prize winners.

The committee does not now go into hibernation as it has to ensure that the lamps keep burning brightly and because of the bad weather volunteer teams have been out during the storms to effect repairs.

All good things of course do come to an end so the lights will be switched off after 6th January and will be taken down the following weekend 13th and 14th January, main lights on the Saturday and the small trees on the Sunday. Help with this task will be greatly appreciated.

The committee is also responsible for the flower garden at the upper end of the High Street and will be busy throughout the summer checking all the equipment, getting ready for next year’s display and of course raising money to be able to continue with decorations in the future.

I hope you all enjoy the displays throughout the festive season and will support the committee in its efforts in the coming months and years.

If you would like to make a contribution please contact me.
