Letter – What is the value of Brockenhurst Tesco bike racks?

More news, no ads

SIR – Regarding the cycle racks installed on the road in Brockenhurst, taking up three parking spaces; used in the summer maybe, but are there, empty, for the remaining 46 weeks.

As a resident, I try to do all my shopping in Brockenhurst and normally spend over £100 a week on groceries, soft drinks, bread, wine and items from the chemist.

On numerous occasions, when I have been unable to park on Brookley Road, especially in inclement weather, I have just continued driving to Waitrose in Lymington.

Like many of the residents of Brockenhurst, I am unable to carry heavy or bulky items too far and I don’t feel I should use Tesco’s car park unless I am shopping there.

The bike racks, which take up three valuable parking spaces are there 24/7 all year round, catering for the few pleasure cyclists who visit the Forest during the few summer months and, when they do, perhaps buy a drink or an ice cream.

Which is more valuable to the village, their small spend for a few weeks of the year or my £100 a week over 52 weeks?
