Letter: Right wing hijacking the national flag
IN Britain we show patriotism by kindness, tolerance and acts of public service in our towns and villages and in the wider world.
I do not display a Union Flag on my house for the same reason that most people do not: it is unnecessary. I am angry that my national flag is being hijacked and used by people whose main purpose is to bring the latest Farage party to power in this country.
It is intended to intimidate. Too many people are going along with it. I have a photo of Oswald Mosely leading his fascists through the streets of London with a large Union Flag just before the Second World War.
Our parents' and grandparents' generation made great sacrifices to defeat the Nazis and fascists, and those in Britain who imitated them. Unfortunately there is a tendency for this kind of thing to return. We do not need all this 'flaggery'.
In kindness, tolerance and unsung public service lie virtue, religion and patriotism.
