Lymington Royal British Legion treasurer Tracy Robertson recognised by Lymington and Pennington Town Council as citizen of the year
TIRELESS charity worker Tracy Robertson has been named Lymington’s Citizen of the Year.
A town council spokesperson said the authority was delighted to recognise Tracy for her “outstanding dedication and contributions” to the community.
As treasurer for Lymington’s Royal British Legion, Tracy has been a driving force behind the installation of the Lymington Soldier artwork in the grounds of St Thomas’s Church.
A council spokesperson said: “For two consecutive years she has helped create a stunning display featuring a soldier covered in poppies. This project has become a symbol of unity, remembrance, and pride for the town.”
Tracy also played a pivotal role in celebrating the legion’s 100th anniversary in the town, helping to organise a military vehicle parade along the High Street, a special church service, and community festivities at the legion’s club.
She also spearheaded a sponsored five-mile walk in fancy dress earlier this year to raise funds for the annual Poppy Appeal.
Tracy said she found receiving the award a “little bit embarrassing”.
She told the A&T: “I had an email from the town council saying my mum had nominated me for the award.
“On the night when they announced I had won I found it all a little bit embarrassing, because there are so many people in Lymington who do so many good things for the town.
“I was blown away to be quite honest.”
Tracy said the legion’s plans for 2025 include another military vehicle display on Lymington High Street on 11th May to mark VE Day.
Handing over her award, town mayor Jack Davies said: "Tracy Robertson exemplifies the very best of community spirit and dedication.
“Her hard work, creativity, and ability to bring people together have enriched the lives of so many in Lymington and Pennington.
“This award is a small token of our immense gratitude for everything she has done to strengthen the bonds of our community and honour those who have served.
“Congratulations, Tracy – you truly deserve this recognition.”
Lymington and Pennigton Town Council says its citizen of the year award celebrates individuals who go “above and beyond to make Lymington and Pennington a better place for everyone”.
The authority’s spokesperson added: “Tracy Robertson’s passion, energy, and unwavering commitment are an inspiration to all.
“The town council extends its heartfelt thanks to Tracy and looks forward to seeing her continued efforts in the years to come.”
Last year’s citizen of the year award winner was Stephen Green, founder of the New Forest Litter Pickers.
