Fast-food giant KFC looks to open new drive-through in Totton

FAST-food giant KFC has earmarked Totton as one of the 500 locations across the UK where it plans to open a new outlet.

The company has not identified where in the town it would like to build, but documents on its website state it would be a drive-through rather than a restaurant.

Back in 2015 plans to open a drive-through KFC and Costa on Spicers Hill in Rushington were shelved by developer Gentian Developments for unknown reasons despite permission being granted on appeal.

Cllr David Harrison, who represents Totton at a town, district and county level, said the news was "interesting" and added: "At this time I struggle to think of an available site in Totton where a KFC could be built. There will likely be many objections as well as supporters if a planning application is submitted.

"There is certainly no shortage of fast-food outlets in the town already. It is small wonder that obesity is becoming a major health issue, following the pattern we have seen in the USA."

The company opened a new store in the former NatWest building in Station Road, New Milton, last month. The company recently admitted it needed to do more to tackle litter after the town council complained.
