Jail for shoplifter Jordan Burnell who punched store worker and headbutted windows in Poulner
A SHOPLIFTER who pushed and punched a store worker and headbutted business windows in Poulner has been jailed.
Jordan Burnell (28) pleaded guilty to assault, shoplifting and two counts of criminal damage, relating to offences committed on 8th January.
Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard Burnell, of Cecil Road, Boscombe, targeted three businesses on Butlers Lane from 8.10pm that evening.
He assaulted a staff member who challenged him as he tried to steal two bottles of wine at Tesco, pushing and punching him.
Burnell then headbutted and damaged a window at Belinda’s Bakery, before headbutting and damaging another at Wine Box, while attempting to resist arrest.
As well as the five-week prison term, the Bench ordered the defendant to pay £50 in compensation.
Sharing news of this sentencing, police urged shop owners or staff to continue reporting any assault, shoplifting or vandalism incidents.
“As this again highlights, we can take action, but only if incidents are reported to us,” a spokesperson for the Hampshire force said.
“With your information, we can take action, including arresting and charging suspects and convicting offenders at court, as the above again demonstrates.”
