Indian takeaway in Totton hit by zero food hygiene rating

A TAKEAWAY has been given a zero food hygiene rating by New Forest District Council after an inspection discovered poor standards of cleanliness.

Nicoles Indian in Salisbury Road, Totton, was visited at the end of October by council staff, who also raised concerns relating to potential cross-contamination.

An NFDC spokesperson told the A&T: “Due to the nature of the issues found, it was not considered necessary or appropriate to close the business.

“At a re-visit in November not all required works had been undertaken and a notice was served requiring them to be done. The business was re-visited a second time last week and the necessary works had been done. We intend to monitor the premises and will visit it again in January.”

The rating scheme was set up to promote high performing food businesses and to enable customers to make informed choices about the standard of hygiene in the business when they eat out, or shop for food.

Inspectors will assess a number of factors to determine how well the business complies with food hygiene legislation, including how the food is prepared, handled, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored.

They will also look at the condition of the food premises and its design, layout and provision of facilities to encourage good hygiene.

The hygiene standards are then rated on a scale from 0 to 5, with 0 meaning that urgent improvement is required and 5 that standards are very good.

Nicoles did not respond to calls from the A&T to ask for its response and to confirm whether it was still open.
