THE Lloyds bank branch in Hythe along with the Christchurch Halifax, it has been announced.

Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) said the Christchurch branch will close on 1st February, and Hythe on 7th February. The two outlets are among 48 branches nationwide that are shutting their doors.

"Like many other businesses, we’ve seen people using our branches less frequently in recent years, and this decline is continuing," said Vim Maru, LBG retail director.

"Our branches remain a fundamental part of how we serve our customers but we need to ensure the size of our branch network reflects the number of customers wanting to use them."

An LBG spokesperson said both branches were being closed as customers used other branches or telephone and online banking, and there were Post Office branches and ATM machines nearby.

Customers at Hythe will have their accounts realigned to Totton Southampton branch, which will not change the way their accounts are managed.

"We have made the decision to close Hythe due to the changing ways customers choose to bank with us, which means the branch is being used less often," he added, with a Halifax spokesperson saying the same of the Christchurch closure.

In 2021, LBG closed 56 branches between March and April, while 44 more are closing between now and November. The 48 branches announced this week will close between January and April 2022.

Once all closures are complete LBG will have 738 Lloyds branches, 553 Halifax branches and 184 Bank of Scotland branches. No Bank of Scotland branches will close as part of the latest announcement.
