Homes on Marine Drive West in Barton evacuated after suspected explosive found




Several homes in Barton were evacuated yesterday (Thursday) after a suspected explosive was found in a house.

Police cordoned off part of Marine Drive West after the call was received at around 3.20pm when “a reported discovery of a piece of suspected unexploded ordnance” was discovered.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: “A cordon was put in place and several nearby homes evacuated.

“The explosive ordnance disposal team attended and made safe the item, which was empty.

“The cordon was lifted and people returned to their homes shortly before 6.30pm.”
