Highcliffe Sailing Club’s Icicle series heats up as RS Aeros join contest
HIGHCLIFFE SAILING CLUB’S Icicle Open Series third and fourth races began with flicking ice off the boat covers, then witnessed so much excitement and enthusiasm that it took four attempts, three total recalls and seven disqualified boats to get the show on the road.
Once underway, racers enjoyed close sailing in lovely winter sunshine, with many boats finishing within seconds of each other.
Once more, Highcliffe SC were treated to a line-up of 36 boats representing six different clubs, including a sizeable contingent of RS Aeros, who were contesting the two races as part of their RS Aero UK Winter Series.
The racing was dominated by the RS Aero 9 craft of Barton and Rolfe, although Christchurch’s New managed to pip them all to the post in the first race and bag the top spot.
Overall the leader board places Christchurch’s Atkins (Finn) at the top, followed by New and sitting in third overall is Highcliffe’s Rusden (Laser).
The next racing in the series will be on Sunday 3rd February at 10.30am.
