Ellie Gange's beauty salon Coco Mango finally opens in Highcliffe after five-year refit

ELLIE Gange knows better then most that good things come to those who wait.

The beauty therapist has spent the past five years revamping a shop unit in Highcliffe’s high street to realise a dream of owning her own salon.

And last week she finally opened the doors of Coco Mango Beauty.

Both Ellie and her plasterer boyfriend Ryan have been chipping away at the Lymington Road site since it was bought for the pair by Ryan’s uncle, well-known local baker David Pretty.

David and his wife Monica owned Monica’s Upper Crust Patisserie – next-door to what is now Coco Mango – as well as neighbouring unit Highcliffe Coaches. When the previous owners retired, David had the chance to own the row of three.

“Uncle Dave had the opportunity to purchase the shop with the vision of me opening up a beauty salon, and when he approached me with the idea I was delighted at the prospect and accepted the offer immediately,” said Ellie.

“Ryan said he would help me with the work to keep the cost down because, although this was a dream of mine, it wasn’t something that I was financially ready for.

“He worked evenings and weekends for what has seemed like forever.”

In the meantime, the pair had two daughters, now aged five and three, but sadly David died before he could see Ellie’s dream realised.

“Uncle Dave passed away, never getting to see the end result. He saw some of the refurb but not the finished shop,” said Ellie.

“Then Covid put a halt on things.

“Finally, five years later, I have opened, and the finished result is amazing. It’s the most beautiful salon I could ever have wished for, the exact vision I had from the start.”

Ellie, who has been a beauty therapist for 14 years and worked at Chewton Glen and Lime Wood Hotel, offers the full range of beauty treatments at Coco Mango but specialises in massage.

“I love giving massage treatments, it is my forte. Treating muscular issues with a holistic approach, I aim to help with everyone’s needs treating the body as a whole,” she said.
