Contrast therapy Revitalise Hub launches in Lymington

A NEW health and wellbeing centre has opened in Lymington offering contrast therapy.

Launched in January, The Revitatlise Hub has been founded by school friends Lewis Butchers and Tommy Webber at Lymington’s Ampress Park.

The duo decided to launch the facility in response to the increasing popularity of contrast therapy, which involves alternating between ice baths and a sauna.

Lewis said: “Our hub offers both invigorating ice baths and relaxing traditional sauna, creating the perfect environment for physical and mental rejuvenation.

“We've also designed a welcoming front-of-house area where you can relax and browse and purchase a curated selection of wellness drinks, teas and coffees.”

The physical and mental benefits of contrast therapy are well documented, with participants undertaking a cold plunge before spending time in the sauna.

The Revitalise Hub features two ice plunge pools and a traditional sauna for up to eight people at a time.

Lewis said: “We have two ice baths – one is set at eight degrees and the other is set at three degrees. You do a minimum of 45 seconds in the ice bath which starts releasing all the chemicals. The serotonin and dopamine that is released is the same as you’d get from some antidepressants and medications.”

He said he came up with the idea following a conversation with a friend who had just returned from Bali, where the wellness industry is huge.

“He asked me where can you do sauna and ice bath therapy locally,” continued Lewis. “We found out there was nothing like that available - in fact a year ago when we started planning, the closest contrast therapy setting of this kind was in Wales.

“We originally looked at creating a space like this in Bournemouth, but then we realised that this site at Ampress – with a gym nearby – was absolutely perfect.”

Therapy starts with an ice bath, which has a cooling effect on the body, causing the blood vessels to constrict (vasoconstriction). This can help reduce inflammation and eliminate toxins from the muscles.

The sauna then generates heat which dilates the blood vessels (vasodilation) and boosts circulation. When combined the two treatments can boost mental and physical wellbeing.

Lewis said: “At our core, we believe in empowering individuals to prioritise their wellbeing. Our mission is to create a space where people can feel better leaving than when they arrived – a place for healing, growth, and connection within our community.”

Plans for the future include working with breath work specialists to increase the programme of activities available.

Membership options start from £48 a month for four off-peak one hour sessions, with an unlimited use membership available for £140. Individual sessions are also available from £20.
