Christchurch parks and open spaces achieve Green Flag status
INTERNATIONAL quality marks have been awarded to green spaces in Christchurch.
The Green Flag Awards, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognise well managed open areas, setting the benchmark across the UK and around the world.
BCP Council was awarded 23 Green Flags, including Christchurch Quay and Roeshot Hill Allotments.
Hengistbury Head once again achieved the coveted Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management of its historic features.
The council’s cabinet member for environment and place, Cllr Mark Anderson, said: “Yet again I’m so very proud of our parks and open spaces that have been awarded Green Flags across the BCP area.
“This is fantastic news for both residents and visitors as it shows we are maintaining our green spaces to the highest standards, whilst ensuring a legacy for future generations.”
Cllr Sean Gabriel, chair of the place overview and scrutiny panel at BCP Council, added: “These awards really demonstrate the pride that our parks staff, working alongside dedicated volunteers, feel towards our parks and open spaces.”
Keep Britain Tidy accreditation manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making our parks across the UK worthy of a Green Flag Award.”
