Bluebird Care to hold free tea dance in New Milton’s St Magdalene Church on 18th May

A FREE tea dance is set to be held in New Milton next month to raise awareness of dementia.

The theme of this year’s Dementia Action Week is ‘diagnosis’, with emphasis on the fact that more people are suffering the condition at an early age.

Many people put memory loss down to ageing and do not seek advice from their GP, but they are now being urged to research the potential symptoms and “act on dementia”.

Given an early diagnosis, people can get the support they need to stay in the comfort of their own homes, with daily support offered by organisations like Bluebird Care.

This year the company is sponsoring a Tea Dance in New Milton’s St Magdalene Church on 18th May between 2pm and 4pm.

The event is open to dementia sufferers and those who care for them. There will be live music and a raffle.

Managing director of Bluebird Care, Bernadette Mills, said: “When people live with dementia, their world is getting smaller and smaller as their perception of noises and views on day-to-day activities are very different from people not living with the condition.

“The Tea Dance is an opportunity for family members to take their beloved and have a little bit of fun in a safe and caring environment.”

Volunteers to help serve the tea are being sought, and those wanting to attend should email the Bluebird Care offices at newforest@bluebirdcare.co.uk
