Milly Whitlock Doe who fell off hotel balcony in Majorca is now home in UK and recovering well
A TEENAGE girl who was seriously injured after falling off a balcony while on holiday in Majorca is back home in the UK and recovering well.
Milly Whitlock Doe (15) from Thorney Hill, near Bransgore, was on her first family holiday abroad when the accident happened in August.
She had to undergo lifesaving brain surgery in hospital before being put into an induced coma. When she was taken out of it, she surprised doctors by being able to move and talk.
Last week Milly was flown home thanks to a charity called Lia’s Wings which was set up in 2010 in response to an urgent need for an air transfer service for critically ill children.
It operates in the UK but has “increasingly” helped get youngsters injured abroad home for treatment, as they did in Milly’s case.
Family friend Erica Arnold said: Milly’s family are eternally grateful to Lia’s Wings who have been fantastic. They were an amazing help getting everything organised for Milly to fly home, they have also helped with a generous contribution towards the cost of the air ambulance which will cost a total of £25,767.”
A JustGiving fundraising page set up for Milly after the accident has raised over £13,000.
After Milly was flown back she was taken to Southampton hospital where she was assessed.
“Doctors decided that she would not need an operation on her neck. Doctors have been able to remove the staples, but she will continue to wear a neck brace for the moment. Milly is now only waiting for an operation on her skull for the foreseeable future, and she has started her rehabilitation programme.”
Milly, added Erica, is now at home continuing with her rehabilitation until her next operation.
She said: “It will take quite a while and lots of hard work from Milly for her life to return to how it was before, but she’s in the best possible place, surrounded by those who love her and with lots of support and encouragement.
“The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all the love and support they have received during this profoundly challenging time in their lives, and your kindness has been a beacon of hope.”
