St Luke’s Primary School pupil Charlotte Aston, from Sway, designs poster for Hampshire County Council’s Walk to School Week
A Forest schoolgirl’s poster for Walk to School Week took pride of place when the scheme launched across Hampshire this week.
Charlotte Aston (11), a pupil at St Luke’s Primary School in Sway, designed the poster to encourage fellow pupils and parents at her school and those across the county to take part in the project.
Parents of 92,000 youngsters at 352 schools are encouraged to leave their cars at home this week and walk their children to school.
Charlotte’s poster includes the statement ‘Stop, Look, Listen and Think’ alongside a picture of Sway tower and her school.
Cllr Nick Adams-King, Hampshire County Council’s cabinet lead for universal services, said: “The longer, brighter summer days provide an added incentive to walk, cycle or scoot to school more often.
“It’s been proven that getting to school in this way helps children to arrive in the classroom alert and ready to learn. It delivers obvious health and wellbeing benefits, not just for young people but for the whole family, and gives everyone the opportunity to practice safety skills together.”
