Police arrest Totton man on suspicion of attempted murder after man hit by car while confronting suspected poachers on Netherton Road, near Hurstbourne Tarrant




A TOTTON man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was struck by a car while confronting suspected poachers.

Detectives have been investigating the incident near Hurstbourne Tarrant, which happened last Thursday night, with the victim, who is in his 50s, having been seriously injured.

The alarm was raised around 11.10pm, with reports of a suspected poaching incident on Netherton Road, where police found the injured man.

He was said to have tried to confront a group of men in a field, when they reportedly got into a vehicle, which then struck him. The vehicle was then driven from the scene.

The casualty was taken to hospital for treatment, where today (Tuesday) he was said to be in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

Detectives have now arrested the 37-year-old Totton man on suspicion of attempted murder.

He is currently in police custody amid further enquiries.

District Insp. Stuart Ross said: “This was a serious incident and we know the impact that this has had on the local community.

“I want to reassure people that we do not tolerate this type of offending and are working hard to bring those responsible to justice.”

He continued: “We have spoken to a number of people in the community, but if anyone has any information about what took place, we would urge them to speak to us.

“Perhaps you were in this area on that night and remembered seeing something suspicious?

“Or maybe you are aware of what happened and have information that could help our enquiries? If so, please get in touch.”
