James Kempster of Bury Brickfields in Totton denies dumping dead animals outside community store in Broughton

A MAN accused of dumping 50 dead animals outside a village shop will face trial after he denied the charges.

James Kempster (37), of Bury Brickfield Park in Totton, was charged last month with two counts of possessing wild birds, and one of criminal damage.

As reported in the A&T, the carcasses, which included around 50 dead hares, a kestrel and a barn owl, were found outside the community store in Broughton, between Salisbury and Winchester, on the morning of 15th March.

Examinations of the barn owl – a protected species – and the kestrel revealed they had been shot with a firearm.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) when he entered not-guilty pleas to all charges.

He was bailed until 7th May 2025 on the condition he does not enter Broughton.
