Met Office issues yellow weather warning for strong winds for parts of New Forest on Thursday
STRONG and gusty winds are set to batter coastal parts of the New Forest tomorrow (Thursday) ahead of the predicted arrival of Storm Éowyn on Friday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region from 7am until 6pm, with high winds moving west to east across the country.
Weather experts say it is likely coastal routes, seafronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves, with bus and rail services likely to be affected by longer journey times.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed bridges and highways are likely, and short-term losses of power and other services may also occur.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “A band of heavy rain will move from west to east across the area on Thursday, bringing a four to five hour spell of strong and gusty winds.
“Winds are expected to reach 50 to 60mph over exposed coasts and hills.
“Winds, arriving across western areas during the morning will ease during the afternoon, whereas eastern areas will see winds peak during the afternoon.”
Commuters are advised to give themselves the best chance to avoid delays by checking road conditions and public transport timetables for amendments before traveling.
The Met Office is also advising people to take extra care on the coast and to be prepared for weather conditions to change quickly.
