A FORDINGBRIDGE man who attacked a woman on four separate occasions has been jailed for 20 weeks.

Andrew Berry (54), of Ashford Road, assaulted the victim by beating between 2nd March and 18th April, and also damaged her phone and other belongings.

He pleaded guilty to the offences, which were committed while subject to a suspended sentence order imposed by the court in September last year for driving while disqualified and failing to report an accident.

Southampton magistrates opted for custody after noting they were "serious assaults" and that alcohol had played a part in Berry's offending.

The Bench also pointed out it was the defendant's second breach of a court order and that he had shown little engagement with the court system.

Berry was ordered to pay his victim £200 in compensation, and given a restraining order prohibiting contact with her.
