Environment Agency issues flood alerts for parts of the New Forest and Christchurch after Storm Éowyn brought heavy rain and strong winds
FLOOD alerts have been issued for parts of the New Forest and Christchurch today (Friday) after Storm Éowyn brought heavy rain and strong winds.
As reported in the A&T, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, which runs until 3pm.
Now the Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for Christchurch Harbour and tidal stretches of the Lower Stour and Avon, as well as tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch.
The alert states: “Storm Éowyn is bringing strong winds, leading to large waves and spray overtopping on the coast this morning which may cause flooding.
“Rising river levels may [also] lead to flooding of roads and low lying land. Property flooding is not expected.”
Advice includes avoiding coastal roads, low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, as well as moving vehicles to higher ground if it is safe to do so.
It adds: “Please do not drive through floodwater as bow waves may affect adjacent properties.
“Stay away from floodwater – it contains hidden dangers such as open manhole covers, sewage and chemicals. Don't put yourself or others at risk.”
