Environment Agency warns of flooding risk at Christchurch Harbour this evening




FLOODING is expected tonight (Wednesday) in parts of Christchurch, the Environment Agency is warning.

An alert has been issued for the harbour and tidal stretches of the Lower Stour and Avon due to higher-than-usual tides.

It states: “The peak high water level at Christchurch Harbour is at 11.42pm this evening, with south-westerly force six winds.

“Sea spray overtopping along the coast is possible and high water levels in the harbour are forecast. Flooding to roads and low lying land is possible and conditions can apply one to two hours either side of high tide.”

It added: “We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff will be closing flood gates if necessary.”
