Environment Agency issues flood alert for Calshot and Lepe, near Southampton Water




A FLOOD alert has been issued for the Southampton Water, including Calshot and Lepe, amid heavy rain and strong winds.

The Environment Agency released the warning, stating the tide at midday and 2.15pm today (Tuesday) is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong westerly force six winds.

It is advising that very minor impact flooding will affect the lower floor level of Eling Tide Mill one hour either side of high water.

Motorists are warned that road and car park flooding may occur at Magazine Lane, Marchwood, and Shore Road, Hythe.

Local police had already posted images online of flooding on Shore Road shortly after 3.30pm yesterday (Monday), although they said it “appeared to be reducing”.

The EA said the weather was expected to become more settled after this afternoon’s tide‚ with levels reducing and no further impacts expected.

The notice said: “We continue to monitor the forecast.

“Avoid parking in low-lying coastal car parks and plan driving routes to avoid the roads listed above.”

There is still a flood warning in place for Christchurch Harbour, with flooding possible in the area until around midday today.
