Police said the incident, which took place in Somerford Road just after midday on Wednesday, was filmed by members of the public on mobile phones, and have appealed for footage.

A man in his 20s was assaulted and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested two 21-year-old men from Bournemouth on suspicion of violent disorder, with one also held on suspicion of criminal damage.

Also arrested were a 42-year-old woman from Bournemouth on suspicion of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and a Bournemouth man aged 49 on suspicion of violent disorder.

All four are helping officers with their enquiries.

A 79-year-old man, also of Bournemouth, who had been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, has been released under investigation.

Det. Insp. Mark Jenkins, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We would like to reassure the local community that a full investigation is under way and enquiries are being carried out, involving house-to-house visits and CCTV searches.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and either witnessed what happened or saw vehicles or a group of men in Somerford Road to please contact Dorset Police.

“I am aware that members of the public may have filmed part of the incident on their mobile phones and I would ask these individuals, or any motorists or residents who may have captured anything relevant on dashcam or home CCTV, to please get in touch.

“Finally, officers from the local neighbourhood policing team can be approached with any community concerns.”
