Firefighters tackle barn fires at Dragon Lane in Bisterne

MORE than 35 firefighters tackled two barn fires as straw went up in smoke yesterday (Thursday).

The structures containing 25 tonnes of straw were well alight by the time crews from Ringwood and Fordingbridge arrived after a call-out just after 3pm

They were joined by firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service who worked with the farmer to control the burn, a DWFRS spokesperson said.

The stop message came in before 10.30pm after the incident had been scaled back and firefighters had dampened down the scene using jets and hose reels.

No people or animals were involved in the blaze.
