Firefighters respond to second fire in fortnight on Calshot beach

VISITORS to a New Forest beach have been urged to keep naked flames away after a second blaze involving flood defences in as many weeks.

Firefighters from Hardley responded to a call-out around 6.30am on Wednesday and contained flames engulfing a wooden shoreline fence on Calshot beach, near the Lepe end. The cause is unknown.

As reported by the A&T, crew from the station spent nearly 90 minutes dealing with a wooden groyne fire on a different stretch of the beach, thought to have been caused deliberately or by careless embers disposal.

A station post after the latest incident said: “Please be considerate when enjoying Calshot and keep the naked flames away.

“It's a beautiful part of the Waterside and enjoyed best whilst not on fire.”
