HAMPSHIRE firefighters rescued a horse which had a “bit of a nightmare” after getting stuck in a ditch in Sway.

The service’s animal rescue advisors and Barn Equine vets went to the aid of 13-year-old Romie at Lower Mead End Road just before 9.20am on Tuesday morning, rescuing the 16-hand mare using a harness and a mobile machine.

“Romie got in a bit of a night-mare when she became stuck in a ditch in Sway,” Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service tweeted.

"Animal Rescue Advisors and Barn Equine vets were on hand to help the 16-hand mare out using a manitou."
