Fordingbridge fire station launches life-saving co-responder service

LIFE-saving medical back-up is now being provided from Fordingbridge fire station with the launch of its co-responder service.

Joining other New Forest stations that have run such a service for several years, the town’s co-responder car will be crewed by on-call firefighters.

They will respond to life-threatening medical emergencies together with South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

Co-responder firefighters receive training from SCAS in basic life support including resuscitation and defibrillation.

Adequate operational cover at the fire station remains priority but, if sufficient cover is available, a firefighter may crew the co-responder car.
