Van destroyed in fire which spread to fence in Beech Crescent, Hythe

FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze which destroyed a van and damaged a section of fence in Hythe on bank holiday Monday night.

The alarm was raised around 10.10pm as flames engulfed an abandoned white Ford Transit in Beech Crescent.

Crews from the town and Hardley arrived to find the fire had started to spread to a nearby wooden fence. Equipped with breathing apparatus, they contained the emergency within about half an hour, by which time the vehicle was gutted.

Police were alerted, but a spokesperson for the Hampshire force said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
